Electric tankless water heater prices

What to check before buying an electric tankless water heater

Your electrical panel decides. A 27 kW heater draws about 112 amps on three double-pole breakers. Many 200 A homes can't spare that alongside an electric range, dryer and heat pump, and a service upgrade can cost more than the heater. Filter the table by the amps you have free.

Climate matters more than for gas. In the South, 18 to 24 kW can run two showers; in the North, where winter water arrives at 40 °F, even 36 kW manages about two. If you are in a cold climate and replacing an electric tank, compare a heat pump water heater: it uses a third of the electricity and plugs into the existing circuit.

Point-of-use units (3.5 to 13 kW) are a good fit for one far-away sink or an addition, where waiting for hot water to arrive is the real problem.
